Sherman Hill Association, the “Twins” project

Where were the homes originally located?

1918 Crocker (the one now on the north side of Leyner) and 1920 Crocker (South side of Leyner)

Describe the homes and why they are called the “twins” by neighbors? The two homes appear to have been built about the same time and have a very similar floor plan, basically a mirror image of themselves. They were built so close to each other that they actually had a shared gutter system.

Why did they need to be moved? Smokey Row purchased the two homes and the land surrounding them for additional parking. The Twins were slated for demo, so the only way to save them, was to move them.

When were they moved? And, where to? They moved early July to 1919 Leyner & 1924 Leyner. Not too far away from their original location.

What is happening with them now? Planning and design on how to properly renovate them.

What is the plan for the homes? The plan is to keep them as single-family houses and for the current owners to sell them.

Who was involved in this project? Smokey Row donated funds to help pay for the moving costs and the cost of the two new foundations. The Sherman Hill Neighborhood Association also made a contribution. The project leads were Ryan Howell (Board President) and Robert McCammon. Billy Bell Moving Company was contracted for the move.
